Barn Burner canceled due to flooding, rain

Barn Burner 104, an endurance mountain bike race scheduled for Saturday in Flagstaff, has been canceled due to flooding and predicted rain, race organizers announced Tuesday afternoon.

The U.S. Forest Service decided the race had to be canceled due to the “current amount of water on the required inbound roads, as well as the forecasted rain in the coming days,” the race website reads.

“We are actively pursuing an alternative date with the cooperation of the landowners and USFS to produce this event,” a statement from organizers read on the race website. “We regretfully have to cancel the Blueprint for Athletes Barn Burner.”

Sunday, Flagstaff received heavy rains with flooding that canceled the second run of the Flagstaff Super D. Weather reports warn of heavy flooding and hail in the area this week.

The statement added that Life Time Fitness, which hosts the event, is “extremely disappointed with this decision” but are working diligently with the forest service and landowner to reschedule.

They plan to allow registrants to either defer to the new 2015 date, defer to the 2016 Barn Burner event or receive a full refund.
