USA Cycling announced today the seven athletes that will represent the U.S. at the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, April 12-16, in Hong Kong.

“Our women’s team is very strong and showcases the depth we have in the program,” said Jim Miller, USA Cycling Vice President of Athletics. “We are ready to challenge the world.”

Four-time Olympic medalist and seven-time elite world champion Sarah Hammer (Performance United – FELT) will lead the U.S. contingent, competing individually in the omnium, scratch race and points race. Hammer’s automatic qualifications came from placing second at the Rio Olympics in the omnium and by being the highest ranked U.S. athlete in the women’s UCI standings for both the points and scratch races.

For the team pursuit, Hammer will join forces with her Rio Olympics silver medal teammates Kelly Catlin (Rally Cycling), Chloe Dygert (Sho-Air TWENTY20) and Jenn Valente; and with Kim Geist (PA Masters p/b Piscitello Law), who was part of the gold medal winning team pursuit squad at the recent Track World Cup in Los Angeles.

Catlin and Dygert will also compete in the individual pursuit in Hong Kong – Catlin as the reigning continental champion and Dygert as the gold medal winner from the LA Track World Cup.

Geist will team up with Kim Zubris (Long Tail Creative) for the first-ever women’s Madison to be held at a Track World Championships. The two have been racing the event together for the past year and are the reigning national champions.

Zak Kovalcik (Toronto Hustle) will represent the USA in the men’s points race and scratch race. The 34-year-old earned his automatic nominations as the UCI points leader in both the points race and scratch race.
